Spooky Stories ...and more!
As the founder of SCOPE NJ, I'm often asked when I first got interested in the paranormal. I respond by pointing out that I've always had an irrepressible curiosity about strange and unusual things ever since I was a child. The photo on the cover of my book shows my fascination with a bug crawling on a rosebush.
Indeed, certain chapters in Precious Yesterdays reveal a number of experiences that contributed to my preoccupation with things that may be regarded as preternatural. Here are some excerpts.
Goose Bumps--Can a plaster statue spring to life?
Spooky Stories--"Flickering light from the grotesque sculpture danced about the room and the frightened children backed away from the table."
Garage Memories--"To us kids, the garage was haunted, and we would never think of going into its dark recess at night."
The Cellar--"My cellar was a dark, mysterious place, a shadowy netherworld where Ray, Big Vincent, and I hatched many of our adventures and schemes."
A Day at the Movies--"We turned with alarm for someone or something was standing in front of the open cellar door. Adrenaline coursed through my body as I realized that there was nowhere to run. And then the person, or thing, slowly, stealthily walked down the cellar steps."
The Intruder--"My knees started to shake, and if anyone did step out into the light I probably would have passed out from fright."
