Investigation of theBurlington County Jail/Museum, Mount Holly, NJ
The old Burlington County Jail was built in 1811 and was in constant use as a prison until it closed in 1965. It is now a museum and a National Historic Landmark located in Mount Holly, New Jersey. More information regarding its history, days and hours of operation, etc. can be found on its website: www.prisonmuseum.net. The site has been investigated by a number of paranormal research groups including Sci-Fi channel's TAPS. It is one of the most haunted locations in the United States. Our SCOPE investigation took place on the evening of February 18th. It was a clear night with temperatures in the upper 50s. A full moon cast an eerie glow on the exterior walls of the imposing edifice. The following video excerpts were extracted from the hard drive of our Lorex remote camera system. Since we conducted our research in near total darkness, the examples below were recorded with infrared night vision. In order to view these videos, you will require Quicktime. If you don't already have it on your computer, click on the link below. Also, you might get a prompt at the top of your screen that may require you to unblock the ActiveX constraints in order to view these excerpts. You may also go to "View" on your toolbar and zoom to 150% to expand the selections. Some of the anomolies you see are open to interpretation. We'd love to hear from you about them. Go to our "Contact Us" page. We hope you enjoy them!
Here you will see some fascinating creatures that are always associated with haunted houses. Can you tell what they are?
The hallway viewed is one that connects the jail to the warden's house.
One of TAPS' cameras recorded a shadow figure here during their investigation.
Keep looking at the right side of the hallway. What do you see coming toward you?
This is a view of the rear jailyard. A mysterious figure seemingly pops out of the ground and moves quickly to the left of the jail yard. We'd like you to tell us what you think it is. We'll let you know if we think you're right.
We're back in the hallway to the warden's house. What do you see coming out of the
wall? Notice when the movement passes the railing along the wall. What happens?
IR trap camera photo of SCOPE videographer, Ted Czech, along with a mysterious formation on the right side of the picture. What do you think it is? Contact us! We'll tell you what we think it is.
Sarah inspects a cell on the 2nd. floor. It was here that the murderer Joel Clough was housed. Visitors to the infamous "dungeon" cell have experienced sudden illness in the form of nausea, chills, dizziness, and headaches. A few of our investigators showed some of these symptoms after being in the cell for a time.

Some of the cells in the Burlington County Jail/Museum use mannequins to illustrate prison life. Investigators must become aware of these before exploring the cellblocks in total darkness!

It was near this location where a security guard was murdered during an attempted jail break.
We captured this EVP using an Olympus VN 960PC digital recorder. Is it the voice of the murdered guard or one of the prisoners? He says,"I'm dying in here! Please help me!" Turn up your volume if necessary.

The trap camera captures Tom, Steve, and Ted as they meet briefly outside of the dungeon cell to discuss the progress of the investigation.
Not a real EVP. Just Gary's reaction when I walked out of a dark cell at the end of a cellblock just as he was walking by. You NEVER know what could happen on an investigation!
